TARGETING REGIONAL GROWTH: Shaklee Products (M) Sdn Bhd will use Malaysia as its springboard in its expansion to penetrate the South-East Asian region beginning this year, said its regional general manager for South-East Asia Victor Lim (pic: Shiddieqiin Zon)

Shaklee Products (M) Sdn Bhd will use Malaysia as its springboard in its expansion to penetrate the South-East Asian region beginning this year, said its regional general manager for South-East Asia Victor Lim.

Speaking to The Malaysian Reserve recently, Lim said the company has outlined its five year expansion plan and identified Indonesia as the first country it is going to enter.

"We have started our business registration and licensing procedures in Indonesia. "We’ve had talks with some leaders in Shaklee to build their business in Indonesia," said Lim, adding that the company invested US$1 million (RM3.17 million) to set up its operation in Indonesia.

The company plans to kickstart its operations in Indonesia between May and June.

"In Indonesia, we have a good opportunity to build our business. What it lacks is a company that can truly provide good business opportunities as well as good products."

He added that the company also plans to access either Vietnam or Thailand in its five-year plan.

Shaklee Malaysia is a subsidiary of US-based Shaklee Corp. It has been operating in Malaysia for the last 23 years with an office in Subang Jaya, Selangor, and six other branch offices in Penang, Ipoh, Kuala Lumpur, Johor Baru, Kota Baru and Kota Kinabalu.

On the local front, Shaklee Malaysia aims to increase sales by 50% this year, boosted by two new products to be launched and the establishment of new distributors.

"MLM business is recession proof. We grow in good times or bad times. During good times, people have a lot of money, so when people are rich, they always care about their health.

"During bad times, there are more people that need to look for a second or third income.

So, they want extra money so we can provide them with business opportunity," he said.

Shaklee Corp operates in Malaysia, Canada, Japan, Mexico, China and the US and has over 700,000 members worldwide.
